Juta Õunapuu

Juta Ounapuu began her violin studies at the Music Highschool in Tallinn in Tiiu Peäske´s violin class and continued at the Estonian Academy of Music under the guidance of Arvo Leibur. From 2003-2006 she studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock in Prof. Petru Munteanu´s violin class before moving to Cologne in 2006 to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Cologne with Prof. Mihaela Martin.

Juta has appeared as a soloist with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Hochschule für Musik und Cologne, the Concertino Ensemble Rostock and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. As a recitalist, Juta has appeared in the “Junge Elite” series at the Mecklenburg Vorpommern Festival (2008) and toured Japan with solo and piano trio concerts (2009). A committed Chamber Musician, Juta has appeared at several international festivals including the Zermatt Festival of Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (2008,2009) and the Chamber Music Festival Pablo Casals in Prades(2008)and is a member of Nyyd Ensemble and Nyyd Quartet.

Juta Ounapuu has won numerous prizes and awards. In 1993 she was awarded a diploma at the J.Kocian competition in Usti nad Orlici. She also won 1st first prize at the Competition of Young Estonian String Players three times (1997,1999,2001) and was awarded the third prize at the A.Dombrovska competition in Riga (1999). Juta has participated in masterclasses with P.Zuckerman, L.Kavakos, C.Altenburger , A.Strauss und K.Wataya

In August 2010 Juta accepted a position with the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, resident in Cologne’s Philharmonie and Opera House.
