Andrus Järvi

Andrus Järvi was born in 1953 in Tallinn as the oldest son of conductor Vallo Järvi.  He studied violin at the Tallinn Music High School from 1961–1970. He graduated from the viola class of Paul Purga at the Tallinn Music School in 1973, and from the viola class of Professor Herbert Laan  at the Tallinn State Conservatory in 1978. He was an orchestra member of the Estonian National Opera in 1972–1974 and from 1975–1990 he worked in the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ENSO), being the principal violist from 1985–1990. Since 1990 he is working in Finland; from 1995–2003 he was the principal violist of the Oulu Symphony Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist and participated in several chamber ensembles in Estonia and abroad. Andrus Järvi was a founding member of the Tallinn String Quartet.
